More information on the meeting organised by the Islands Commission on: «HOW CAN THE EU 2014-2020 COHESION POLICY INTEGRATE THE EU’s ISLAND DIMENSION?» held on 8 February 2012 at the CoR
A delegation of the Islands Commission led by its President, Ugo Cappellacci, President of Sardinia, met with the Commissioner for Competition, Joaquin Almunia to ask for more flexibility for islands in the rules on state aid.
The aims of the Islands Commission are:
To urge the European Institutions and Member States to pay special attention to the islands, to acknowledge the permanent handicaps resulting from their insularity, and to implement policies that are best suited to their condition.
To foster interregional cooperation between islands, especially on issues in direct relation with their insularity.
